GeeCon 2010 - Poznan, Poland
GeeCON is a conferences that focuses on Java and JVM technologies, with special attention to dynamic languages like Python, Groovy, and Ruby. The conference is a community effort that brings Java developers from all over Poland, Germany, and other parts of Europe, and is organized by the Polish JUG, the Poznan JUG, the Poznan Supercomputing Network, and the Poznan University.
High Availability, Fault Tolerance, and Resource-Oriented Computing
How do you go about building highly available, fault tolerant systems in Java? The JEE and other specs provide blueprints of how discrete system components should behave, and vendors and open source communities provide implementations of these specifications. Very little is said, however, about how to create highly-available systems using these technologies. This presentation covers all the basics of:
- Availability
- Scalability
- Service level agreements
- Clustering
- Caching
- Database replication
- Resource-oriented computing fundamentals
- Applied SOA
- Case studies
The presentation isn't specific to Java, but the case studies present real-life, production systems rolled out in production at some of the largest companies in the US, Europe, and Japan -- all based on Java and open source technologies!
