Is It Time to Ditch Microsoft Office?
The Microsoft website recently hosted a document titled "OpenOffice 1.1 Competitive Guide"
among its partner sales pages. It offered Microsoft Office's value proposition against
OpenOffice.org, a multi-platform open-source office suite. Microsoft has removed it from
its site since. Someone saved it for posterity here (page 1)
and here (page 2). My
article aims to inform corporate decision makers in both products' capabilities with
respect to their organizations' needs.
The article was published by Computerworld on 14.April.2004. It was widely linked up and discussed by OpenOffice.org and other Open Source Software (OSS) organizations. I was still answering "letters to the editor" 10 days after publication. Check it out!
